The Cover America Tour happened in Summer 2008. Find out what we're doing now to improve health care. Visit www.PrescriptionforChange.org!
We pulled out of Consumers Union headquarters in Yonkers, NY, on a high, and who wouldn’t. A cloudless sky, a parking lot full of friends and colleagues hugging us goodbye, a whole summer ahead of us cruising around America in an RV.
Even the skeptics came out – some in their white coats straight from the labs of Consumer Reports – to check out the big blue RV in the parking lot. I think even they were impressed.
With a sendoff from CU President Jim Guest, we climbed into the RV and drove away. The crowd stayed assembled, waving until we were out of sight.
Who wouldn’t want to start a summer like that?

3 Posted by DeWayne Rhudy at 06/03/08 05:53 PMI hope this journey of yours is successful. However, as a medical professional, midlevel provider, that is a Physician Assistant, I hope you look at the medical problems in this country from all aspects. Most stories point fingers at Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioner's etc as a significant portion of the problem. Let me remind you that are expertise is a result of family sacrifices, years of hard work and many dollars spent. People point out that medicial professionals are huge salary winners. We have HUGE overhead in our offices and our reimbursement steadily declines. So look at the whole picture on this travel. Look at the picture from the patient's view as well as the medical providers view. You will see that it is broken for us all. Best of Luck

FYI, I think the pharmaceutical and insurance companies are the big problem.

5 Posted by bob mitchell at 06/03/08 11:40 PMI was a Federal Employee for 40 years and was injured in 1969. I had and injury that will need medical attention for the rest of my life. We moved to TN after retirement and wrote to the U.S. Dept of Labor to be transfered to a Doctor here, was told I would have to find my own Dr which is impossible because NO ONE wants to handle a Federal Injury Case. Went to the local Congressman office and they would not help me since I was not of their party, this goes on and on. I have no medical for the injury and have letters stating they were responsible for this the rest of my life. Medicare wont cover it and my Blue Cross wont, I'm in limbo
6 Posted by Anthony Wright at 06/08/08 06:04 AMI noticed that you are using a Winnebago Motor Home. Can you tell me why? I have always wanted Consumer Report to rate motor homes as we own a motor home and would like to know how you rate them. Yes, I am a subscriber to Consumer Report and also the internet.
From Health Access California, we wish you the best of luck... Please let us know when you reach the West Coast, and if we can be of help...
