Talking patient safety in central NY Posted by Meg at 06/09/08 12:35 AM

Twelve days into the Cover America Tour we’ve heard overwhelmingly from people about problems with the cost of health care, but there are other critical issues such as quality and safety we’ll be exploring as we make our way across the country this summer.

On Friday, we met with Tricia Torrey – writer, blogger and patient advocate – in Syracuse, NY and talked all things patient safety over lunch at Dinosaur BBQ. Perhaps a bit gratuitous to discuss inaccurate diagnoses and hospital infections while chowing down on Cajun shrimp and mac salad, but I never miss an opportunity for my favorite meal at Dinosaur when I’m passing through Syracuse.

Trisha’s own experience with the health care system is what propels her work, but these days she focuses on empowering other patients.

Check out the great Cover America Tour piece she wrote for about.com, as well as on her own patient advocacy website.

Cover America Tour Consumer Reports Health talks to Americans about the challenges they've experienced getting the affordable, high quality health care they need.
