Postcard from the Road: Sedon-ahhh Posted by Meg at 08/22/08 05:57 AM

Driving down through the steep, pine-scented mountain into the Verde Valley, the red rocks of Sedona are about the last thing you expect to see cut through the green. Especially at sunset – when we pulled in, mouths agape – this town just glows.

From palm readers to spiritual healers, Sedona doesn’t hide its new-agey side. After seeing signs around town advertising “vortex experiences” we relied on the only local expert we knew (our waitress) to explain the phenomenon. She said it was hard to describe but had to do with the increased energy that comes from the earth in this particular spot, calming some and energizing others.

No time to vortex for us, so instead we ordered Healing Chakra Bowls for lunch (yes, that’s something you eat… and wow, was it healthy). Chakras fully healed, we drove wistfully out of Sedona with promises to return someday and do it right … vortex experience and all.
